Boater and officer

Boat safe, boat sober

The state’s waterways have been busy all summer and likely will remain that way. Ensure your safety on the water by wearing a life jacket, driving without distractions, and staying sober. Tree damaged from a storm

New boater education requirements

A new law designed to make boating safer went into effect July 1, 2025, and requires more people to complete boater education before operating a motorboat or personal watercraft. See the “New boater education law” webpage for details about which watercraft operators will need an operator’s permit.
