Make safe hunting a priority
As hunting seasons kick off across Minnesota, hunters should prioritize their safety and that of those around them. Remember to always practice safe firearms handling while in the field. If you’re going to be hunting from an elevated stand, check your equipment to ensure it’s in good condition, climb in and out slowly, and always maintain three points of contact on the ladder or steps.

Planting seedings on historically forested open land? Apply for the Field to Forest Cost Share and receive up to 75% cost share reimbursement and a $500 per acre incentive payment. Funds are limited, so make sure to apply early.

Please consider buying your deer license early this year. This helps avoid any delays that might happen while setting up your account and gives you peace of mind that you are ready for the hunt. If buying in person, check that the place you want to buy your license is selling them this year. Deer season and CWD surveillance
Deer hunting in southwest Minnesota? Chronic wasting disease sampling will be required during the opening weekend of firearms deer season Nov. 7-8. The DNR has moved to a four-year rotational CWD surveillance plan starting with mandatory sampling in the southwest part of the state. Use this interactive map to find sampling stations. Statewide, and even when not required, CWD testing is available for hunters in any permit area. New carcass disposal rules apply for deer harvested in CWD management zones.
