Cross-country skiing

Four people cross-country skiing.

Whether you prefer classical or skate skiing, Minnesota state parks have many miles of groomed cross-country ski trails for you!

  • Remember to check the snow depth and groomed trail conditions before you head out.
  • Anyone age 16 or older must carry a signed ski pass when using groomed cross-country ski trails in state parks or state forests, or on state trails or grant-in-aid trails. You don't need a ski pass if you aren't using groomed trails.

State parks that rent skis

A few parks rent "universal fit" cross-country skis when the ranger station is open. These skis typically don't require special boots - they have a binding that will work with your own winter boots, similar to how you strap on a pair of snowshoes.

Itasca State Park rents cross-country skis through a private concessionaire. For information, contact Itasca Sports at itascasports.com or call 218-266-2150.
